Youth Councils 2016! - Camp Lake, WI

What is Youth Councils? Youth Councils is a three day retreat specifically for Jr. High, High School and college age youth to be challenged and strengthened in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Who can attend Youth Councils? We have two tracks to set up so that we can tailor everything to the specific needs of your youth. To attend the Jr. High Track, youth must be in 6th, 7th or 8th grade by April 8, 2016. In order to be in the High School Track, youth need to be in 9th grade-age 25 by that same date. When is Youth Councils 2016? Youth Councils 2016 is being held from April 8-10, at Wonderland Camp & Conference Center. How much does Youth Councils cost? Only $25. Only $25?! Yes, you read that right. $25 is all you need for your meals, snacks, lodging, main sessions, concerts, banquets, jokes, good times, pillow fights, and more. It's a steal when you think about it. What is the theme for Youth Councils 2016? The theme for the weekend is Illumination. Illumination is the idea that when you light something up, you can see it better. A lot of times we get confused about who Jesus really is. Is he "Get Rich Quick Jesus" or "Blonde Hair, Blue Eyed Jesus"? At Youth Councils 2016, we're going to talk about the misconceptions we carry around about him, and get to the heart of his character. Who are the special guests in the High School Track? [Captain Marion Platt | speaker] Captain Marion Platt was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. Together with his wife he accepted the call to ministry in 2002, and was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer in 2004. He is currently serving as Director of Personnel for the School for Officer Training in the US Southern Territory. Marion attended The Salvation Army as a child, participating in the many youth programs offered there. After graduation from high-school, he quickly enlisted in the US Army, serving 5.5 years as an infantryman in the 10th Mountain Division; after being honorably discharged he met his wife, Everette, at his home corps. Today, they have three children: Medina, 22; Joshuah, 11; and Zion, 9. [Bellarive | worship band] What does being human really mean? At the core, Bellarive is a band examining this question. Our songs are an overflow of stories, thoughts, and conversations proceeding to the overwhelming consideration that there must be more. In our pursuit of understanding humanity, we were interrupted with an explanation…Jesus. Who are the special guests in the Jr. High Track? [Jeniffer Dake | speaker] Jeniffer Dake lives in Nashville, TN with her husband, Nate, and their 2 children. Though now fully committed to her speaking ministry, her past is jam-packed with weird and wonderful adventures. Jeniffer proudly speaks to audiences across the country about her passion for living life in fullest of Christ. Lifestyle evangelism is not only her most passionate speaking topic, but also her manner of living. It is a topic that encompasses everything the body of Christ desires to impart to young people today---to live in such a way that those around you will be eternally impacted for the kingdom of God. [Delwin Eiland Band | worship band] Delwin Eiland serves as a worship pastor at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL. He has a passion for the growth and development of young musicians, and believes that their gifts can be used to lead the church into the next era. As a part of Willow’s Elevate Jr. High Ministry, Delwin leads weekend worship services with his student bands. A native of Chicago’s south side, he now lives in the Northwest Suburbs with his wife, Ashlee, and their two children, Brooklyn & Myles. Is there a banquet or something? Yes, you've heard the roomers, and they're all true. We're having, for the first time in a long time, a formal, dress your best, fancy shoes, good food kind of banquet. It's a black and white affair, so come looking your best, and get ready for a classy time. WORLD SERVICES FUNDRAISER - KENYA EAST Our territorial Partner in Mission, Kenya East, is working to fight hunger every day. Children at the 60+ schools and homes The Salvation Army runs there often receive their only meal of the day at school. Often the meal is the same every day: porridge. Some of the homes run chicken coops so they can benefit from the eggs, chicken and the sale of these to afford other food for the children. There are so many ways we can help our brothers and sisters in Kenya fight hunger in their communities! This year we’re raising money for three specific locations in Kenya East to do just that. See the “2016 Youth Councils - Missions Focus Fundraiser” document to learn more. WORKSHOPS Given our country's current cultural climate, we felt it important to discuss the topic of racial reconciliation in the church - what that means, why it's necessary, and how to do it. That’s why we’re bringing in a great presenter to the High School Track in Dr. Soong-Chan Rah, author and Professor of Church Growth and Evangelism at North Park Theological Seminary. This will be for all delegates, leaders and Officers in the High School Track. For the Jr. High Track, we’ve developed six workshops relevant to their place in life. Have them rank their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices using the descriptions, and indicate those choices on the registration form. How do I register for Youth Councils? See your Corps Officer or Youth Leader to sign up! Registration forms will reach them soon.
