Mon, July 18, 2016 - Fri, July 22, 2016 Summer Art Camp at the SCGA Morning Classes: 9:00am - 12:00pm: Print It! Stamp It! Stomp It! (Ages 4-7) Our youngest artists will have an exciting time becoming printmakers. Students will engage in group activities designed to promote teamwork and creative thinking through the creation of a collaborative class project, will make their own stamps and printing plates, use an etching press and have a stomping good time with Miss Marjorie! Storytellers (Ages 4-7) Storytelling helps students improve their language skills, instills a love of reading and stirs imaginations. In this first-time class, talented professor of visual art Jennifer Pepper will guide students through painting, drawing and mixed media activities based on a variety of classic and contemporary children’s stories. Sculpt This! (Ages 8-12) Students will explore sculpture by examining the distinct ways artists have explored 3D forms throughout history. We will examine a variety of materials used by sculptors and learn techniques that artists use to communicate their ideas and feelings in three dimensions and get inspired to create their own! Afternoon Classes: 1:00pm - 4:00pm: Youth Pottery (Ages 8 & up) In one of our most popular summer offerings, students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of making decorative and functional ceramic art using traditional hand-building techniques and throwing functional vessels on the potter’s wheel. Students will learn about glazing and surface decoration and all artwork will be completed with colorful, shiny glazes. More Mixed Up - NOW WITH PRINTMAKING!! (Ages 8 & up) Students will explore a wide variety of media and materials, from acrylics and watercolors to charcoal and pencil, collage and photo-montage as well as printmaking techniques to create wonderfully unique 2D works of art they can be proud of! Ms. Pepper will teach students about the basics of color theory, creating art from observation, explaining abstraction and how to create abstract art and the basics of good composition. This is a special way to introduce your child to fine art! We are proud to have served the Sumter community for nearly 5 decades.
