Free Spring Break Horse Day Camp for Kids - Lacomb, OR

This is not your typical day camp! Kids learn how to get big jobs done and earn big rewards through our framework of barn, garden, and community activities. Our mixture of work, learning, and play develops character, leadership, and real-world skills. Kids start the morning cleaning stalls and doing other jobs, then have a well-supervised fellowship lunch, then ride or do other horse activities in the afternoon. For the kids that are interested in doing other things during the horsemanship time, we have interesting building or maintenance projects, gardening, and barn games.. Sometimes we have someone come share an aspect of their career, or we will go on a field trip to a business, and sometimes we need to go pick up hay or other donations as part of the camp day. Toward the end of the day as parents arrive, we usually do a short devotion that gives kids the chance to tell how they illustrated a positive characteristic that day. Parents and kids should attend a 90-minute tour and orientation prior to enrolling, you just call us at 541-451-1243 and schedule a time. Participation is on a donation basis, we welcome parents to help out by volunteering, contributing financially, or helping in other ways. Kids may participate for as many weeks as they wish if we have room. It's okay to have a child attend fewer than three days per week. Just let us know ahead of time what your schedule is if possible to we know what to plan for. Who: Age 5 and under may participate if accompanied by an adult or perhaps an older, very responsible sibling. Some older kids with disabilities may also need a companion, we determine if one is needed on a case-by-case basis. We have activities suitable for elementary to high school age, all abilities, high performers to those with disabilities. No prior horse experience is necessary, you learn to handle the horses in our style of horsemanship regardless of knowledge level. Wear: Long pants (skirt or dress over pants is okay), close-toed shoes (boots if they have them), shirts with good coverage (best if they tuck in, and no tank tops, crop tops, or plunging necklines). Rain gear is not necessary, but dress for cold mornings and (hopefully!) warm afternoons with lots of layers. Bring: Sack lunch that does not need to be reheated or refrigerated and a water bottle. The more you label, the better the chance that you'll get back missing items! When: Monday through Friday of Spring Break, 9 am to 4 pm. Our aim is to accommodate working parents, let us know if you need to drop off early or pick up late and we can probably work something out. Where: Near the little town of Lacomb, midway between Scio and Lebanon, and 12 miles directly east of Albany. We will give you exact directions when you schedule an appointment by calling 541-451-1243, please do not just drop by.
