FCOA Youth Theatre Summer Camp - Franklin, PA

FCOA Youth Theatre Summer Camp is a 5-day educational program at the Barrow-Civic Theatre, where students can discover and develop their creative potential under the direction of an experienced team of directors. Participating either as actors or as members of the technical crew, everyone works together to experience what it’s like to put on a full-scale theatrical production! This year’s Summer Camp show title is "On the Shoulders of Giants"! REGISTRATION Dates: April 2-July 1 (or when all spots are filled) Ages: Actors, ages 7-16 (100 spots) and 20 Tech, ages 10-18 (20 spots) Cost: $70 by May 15 or $90 after How to Register: Starting April 2, visit the Box Office or barrowtheatre.com/youth SUMMER CAMP DAYS & TIMES July 22: 2:00-5:00pm July 23-25: 9:30am-3:00pm July 26: 2:00pm-end of show Public Show: July 26 at 7:30pm SUMMER CAMP FAQ'S "How long is Summer Camp?" Summer Camp runs from a Sunday afternoon (2:00-5:00pm) through the Thursday night performance. Monday-Wednesday runs 9:30am-3:00pm, with Thursday running 2:00pm-until after the show and set strike. "Do you put on a “real” show?" Yes! The students learn dances, songs, and blocking in order to put on an hour-long performance on Thursday night. "Can I register through July 1st?" Summer Camp is a very popular program and spots fill up fast! Registrations will close when all spots are filled, which usually happens before July 1st. You may be added to a cancellation list in the event that spots become available. "Can I register my child if they are close to the required age?" Actors must be 7 years old by the end of August to register. Tech members must be 10 years old by the end of August. "Do I have to buy anything extra for camp?" The cost of camp includes a t-shirt, snacks each day, plus a dinner on Thursday night (pizza, water, cookies, etc.). Students do need to provide their own lunches on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Also, students are generally asked to wear jeans for the performance. "Do I need to buy tickets for the show?" Yes. Tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets may be purchased in-person, by phone, or online. "Does my child need to audition?" All students will be included in some dances and scenes; however, if your child would like to audition for a speaking part or solo singing part, he/she will need to audition on Sunday. (You will indicate this on your registration form.) "What is the ratio of adults to students?" There are five directors of the Youth Theatre program. All are local elementary school teachers with Act 34 and Act 151 clearances. We also ask for about 5 parent volunteers each day; therefore, the ratio is 10 students: 1 adult. "Will my child ever leave the building?" The only time students will leave the theater is during lunch. The adults will walk the students across Liberty Street to the park to eat on sunny days. If it is raining, we will eat in the theater lobby. "Am I allowed to videotape the show?" Yes! Parents are permitted at the final dress rehearsal to videotape the show; however, parents must then leave the auditorium until the doors open to the public for the 7:30pm performance. No videotaping or photography is permitted during the public performance. "Will my child need to practice at home?" Yes! All music, scripts, and dance notes are provided as needed for your child to practice in the evenings. We ask the students to practice about an hour each night to prepare for the next day. "Will I need to purchase a costume for my child?" No. Since this is a camp, the students generally are asked to wear jeans and their camp t-shirt (provided on Thursday). Occasionally, some students will be given costumes to wear, but those will be provided. If you have additional questions, please call (814) 437-3440 or email [email protected]. You can also request to join the private Facebook group, FCOA Youth Theatre, for messages from the directors and information about upcoming auditions and programs!
