Pico Youth & Family Center (PYFC) proudly presents: Spring Break'n: A Hip Hop Arts & Social Justice Camp for Middle School students! Following the innovative success of PYFC's Social Justice & Mindfulness Summer Camp for Kids, Spring Break'n is a one-week Spring Break camp geared toward restoring the true essence of hip hop culture and its social purpose by teaching creative skills and the values of peace, unity and social justice to the next generation of youth artists, performers and leaders. Students will engage in critical thinking exercises and learn the technology and skills needed to collaborate on creating songs, art and performance. Students will start each day with yoga and mindfulness and will receive technical training to develop project-based outcomes in the following four elements of Hip Hop. Program Outcomes: Students will learn to express themselves in every element of hip hop using technology, team work and project based learning. Students will learn historical and cultural appreciation of hip hop with a strong emphasis on critical thinking, social justice analysis and creative writing Students will learn and engage in art expression and public speaking Students will engage in team building exercises Students will learn music production Students will learn how to DJ and scratch mixing using two turn tables Students will engage in individual art expression through graffiti art Students will learn creative movement through break dancing & pop locking Cost: $500 for a full week (fee includes daily yoga & mindfulness training, nutritious meals, supplies, music and art production training and lab time) Space is limited.
