Mythical Creatures Adventure Camp at Sky Village NYC (4-7 years)

"Long before the pearly white unicorn of European lore, a one-horned, magical animal was said to roam the Eastern world: the Asian unicorn. First mentioned in written stories around 2700 BC, this unicorn is described as a creature of great power and wisdom that radiated exquisite color.  It also had a voice like the tinkling of bells, and lived for a thousand years..." This is just the beginning of your child's Mythical Creature adventure by Sky Village NYC! Our day camp will include vegetarian cooking with Allergic to Salad, outings to Hoyt Playground, Storytime and DISCO! as well as lots of ARTS and CRAFTS! Our camp is boutique style with only 10 spots available. Please choose Monday, AUGUST 19th or Monday, AUGUST 26th.  You will be charged for the week you would like your child to attend. EARLY BIRD PRICING is available before August 1st, registration closes August 16th. (Extended care is available for those parents who need it.)  Drop-in dates may be registered for after August 1st. OUR CAMP AT A GLANCE Mermaid Monday: With most of our blue planet being covered by water, it's little wonder that, centuries ago, the oceans were believed to hide mysterious creatures including sea serpents and mermaids!  Supporting reading materials will include Hans Christian Anderson's Little Mermaid.  Crafts will include upcycling materials to make ocean jellyfish, seashell mosaics with Plaster of Paris and more! Fairy and Leprechaun Tuesday:  There are many tales of fairies and leprechauns, but do you really know what's what?  Find out what the Irish believe!  Supporting reading material includes Imagine You're a Fairy by Magic Meg and Lucy Lovenheart.  Activities will include making fairy sensory bottles, magic fairy wands, spells, and crafting mini FAIRY HOMES in small wooden boxes!  Yeti (Bigfoot, Sasquatch) Wednesday: In North American folklore, Big Foot or Sasquatch are said to be hairy, upright, ape-like creatures that dwell in the wilderness and leave large footprints.  Find out why people have been chasing Bigfoot for over 60 years! Supporting reading materials include The Boy Who Cried BIGFOOT! by Scott Magoon. Activities will include Geli print making and building your own swamp creature from repurposed cardboard boxes and spaghetti! Unicorn Thursday: A passage of Bruce Chatwin's travel journal In Patagonia (1977) relates his meeting with a South American scientist who believed that unicorns were among South America's extinct species, and that they were hunted to extinction by man in 5000 or 6000 B.C. Supporting reading materials include Thelma the Unicorn by Aaron Blabey and Not Quite Narwal by Jessie Sima.  Activities will include creating colorful Unicorn Dream Catchers, a variety of slime and Tie Dye T-shirts! Fantastic Fantasy Friday: Since it's the end of the week -- as well as the end of summer -- our final morning will be spent at Hoyt Playground experimenting with some Jackson Pollock/Lee Krasner style painting followed by some creative water play and "bubble art" at the Sea Serpent water fountain (please provide additonal clothing and water shoes). NOTES FOR PARENTS: Please provide a packed lunch and bottled water for your child (PLEASE NO NUTS). On FRIDAY, August 30th Sky Village NYC will provide a pizza picnic party and entertainment (face painting, balloon animals, music and games) by Just Fun for Kids! We also kindly ask for all parents to include an additional change of clothes and shoes for the water.  We would like to allow the children to play in the water on hot days. Please use sunscreen on your children and include additional sunscreen in your child's bag. Waivers must be signed at the time of drop-off. All children MUST BE POTTY TRAINED. Thank you for your time, we look forward to spending the week with your children!  Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns at [email protected] or call 917-608-1658.
