Royal Family Kids Camp helps give hurting children of Southern WV a fun filled week all while being surrounded by caring volunteers. Royal Family Kids Camp of Princeton WV is a nonprofit organization through the international Royal Family Kids program. We offer a week long summer camp to children ages 7-11. The children whom qualify for our camp are those who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect or whom may be at risk throughout Southern WV and are in placement with WVDHHR, State Agency Foster Care families, in homes of relatives other than their parents, or who are at risk of becoming a victim of abuse. Volunteers work all year to provide this week long summer camp for these children through multiple fundraisers and events. It takes a staff of 50 to 70 people to put this camp together. Our staff is comprised of camp counselors, kitchen staff, general staff, nurses, recreational coach, and lifeguards under the direction of a trained director. Each counselor is assigned 1-2 children so that the children receive more one on one attention to ensure their week of camp is nothing short of royalty for them. Everything that these children need to make a family style environment for a week is provided without any cost to these families. The estimated cost per child is $400. We supply 3 well balanced meals each day as well as snacks. Clothing that these children bring with them is often inappropriate for the weather or situation. Often they come without a swimsuit, undergarments, shorts, shirts, shoes, socks, towels, pajamas; we make these readily available for each child should they need any. We provide each child with a hygiene bag filled with shampoo, soap, washcloths, tooth brushes, tooth paste, and sunscreen. Bedding and pillows are provided for the campers. Campers stay busy with a fun filled schedule of activities each day! Some activities include fishing, arts & crafts, water day, cooking with the camp chefs, playground games, swimming, water day, movie night, woodworking, and a tea party for the girls. During one evening of camp we host a birthday party celebrating every child’s birthday with ice cream, cake, decorations and everything you could imagine a birthday party to be. Each child is given a large bag filled with toys and games as a present. We celebrate every birthday as one unified celebration as many of these children have never had their birthday celebrated before. Our camp heavily relies on fundraising as a source to fund this camp along with the generosity of individuals and some businesses making donations. Many hours are spent planning, fundraising, and presenting the camp to agencies, businesses, private agencies, and other establishments that work with these children and have referrals for the Royal Family Kids Camp Child Coordinator. The amount of money that is raised determines how many children that can be provided for at the Royal Family Kids Camp for that year. Our goal is not to leave one child behind.
