Whether you are going to summer camp for the first time or have been going for years, there may come a time when you are surprised by all of the silliness going on around you at camp.

From silly songs with silly dances to silly campfire skits and the occasional prank, silliness is part of the camp lifestyle.

If you feel hesitant to join in on the silliness around you, here are three reasons why you should let your insecurities go and just be silly:

1. You Will Make More Friends

Camp is a great place to make new friends. Unlike school, the majority of your time is spent doing social and team activities. However, it can still be difficult to get to know new people. Being silly gives you and your camp mates something fun to bond over. For example, you might ask for your bunk mate's help to put face paint on before dinner or you might make up a song with your bunk mates.

2. You Will Make Lasting Memories

Camp will be an experience that you will likely look back on fondly for the rest of your life. Your strongest memories will likely be some of the silly, crazy things that you did with your friends. This is because activities that are out of your normal actions are easier to remember.

For example, you will likely remember the picnic you had underneath the lunch tables more than any of the other camp meals that blend together.

3. You May Discover New Things You Love

You may feel silly when you try new things. Singing, dancing, riding a horse, or rock climbing all might make you feel awkward if they are new activities. However, if you approach them with the thought that it is okay to be silly and enthusiastic about camp, then you may discover an activity that you are actually really good at or enjoy.

It might be difficult to let go of your inhibitions and be silly at first, however, the sooner you join in with the camp craziness, the better your experience will be.
